[Lux-Pain, Amatsuki, Tales of Innocence, Tales of Symphonia] First kiss ficbits

First kiss ficbits. Not necessarily happy, just first. These are rough and may be edited later or not, but I wanted to post them for Valentine's Day.

LUX-PAIN: Aya/Yui

Yui's apartment was a mess, but in a charming way. Aya thought of her own quarters that she never seemed to have enough time to do anything with aside from lay out new sheets to collect dust, about the countless apartments and hotel rooms she'd lived in. This felt like a home, like Yui lived here with the dirty dishes and the books scattered around her futon.

"Nice place," Aya said. She glanced over at where she'd left Yui, slumped against the doorframe, and realized Yui was crying again. Fuck, she was so out of her depth. "Hey. Hey, it's okay." That's what people usually said to crying people, right? She reached over and patted Yui's shoulder awkwardly.

That was the wrong thing to do. Yui launched herself onto Aya, sobbing into her shoulder and babbling an almost incoherent mush of, "I miss her, I miss her, I miss her." Aya patted her on the back, instead. Maybe that would be more effective. It seemed to work; Yui's sobbing quieted into hiccupy booze-flavored breaths. After a while, she shifted so that her nose brushed against Aya's neck; Aya stiffened. "Chief. Chief, I--"

"It's okay," Aya said. She was pretty sure she didn't want to hear whatever drunken melancholy Yui had to share this time. "Let's get you into bed."

Yui's breath gusted against Aya's neck. "Chief," she said again, her voice breaking up a little at the end, and then she leaned up and oh hell. Aya grabbed Yui's arms, but Yui was already sliding her lips against Aya's.

Aya pulled back, licking her lips reflexively. They tasted like beer and salt, sour and unpleasant, and even with that Aya wanted to lean forward and do it again. "Bed, now," she said instead in her best commanding Chief voice.

Yui didn't even look ashamed; she crawled into her bed fully clothed and curled up into a tight ball. Aya stayed there for a moment, wondering if she was going to cry again, but she didn't. In a few moments, Aya could hear snores instead.

"Fuck," Aya muttered. She ran a hand through her hair. Now what was she going to do?

AMATSUKI: Ginshu/Bonten

Ginshu had almost kissed him before, when she'd still called him Byakuroku. The sun had been bright that day, and everything had seemed intensified and wonderful, from the smell of the trees to the sound of birds celebrating the snowmelt. He'd been waiting for her in a clearing, leaning against a tree, and when he turned to look at her, her breath suddenly caught in her throat, and she realized that he was growing up.

"How fast do ayakashi grow?" she'd asked when she won, but he'd just shrugged and scowled down at the ground.

"As fast as we need to, I guess," he'd said, and that was the end of that conversation. She hadn't kissed him. That would have been too many lines crossed; he was an ayakashi, she human. She was a priestess. She was Ginshu.

Somehow, she couldn't bring herself to care about that anymore. She couldn't bring herself to care about anything. She could taste Bonten's mouth against hers, his tongue in her mouth, and it didn't matter. She could feel the pain twitching through her body as it started the slow process of dying all over again. She could feel the scales on her skin scrape against Bonten's arm.

She broke the kiss; Bonten made a soft sound, dazed and flushed. "You should go," she said. She felt strange and hollow and distant. "I'll have to kill you if you stay too long."

She watched Bonten's mouth twist down, watched his eyes slide off to the side. I won't stop hurting you, she wanted to say, but she didn't. She couldn't.

When he turned to leave, she pressed her face into her sleeve and tried not to think of anything at all.

TALES OF INNOCENCE: Ange/Albert

Ange set her book down with a sigh. "I can't focus on reading with you watching me like that," she said with a mild frown.

Predictably, Albert didn't look at all repentant. "Can't you?" he said. "Maybe you should practice harder."

"Really, I would have thought you'd mature a little." She folded her hands in her lap. "Are you looking at me for a reason, or are you just being an overgrown brat?"

That got a laugh out of him, but he stood up and walked over to her chair. She looked up at him; he didn't look like Himmel at all except for the hair hanging around his face. Maybe Himmel would have looked like this, one day, if he'd been allowed to grow up. "Is this all right?" he asked, his voice quiet.

"You haven't even done anything yet," she said, though she sat up a little straighter at his words. "How could I possibly say-- mm!"

It wasn't as though she had anything to compare it to; she'd never been kissed before. But it felt desperate, somehow, hot and overwhelming, and she reached up to grab his arm when he tried to pull away again.

"Ange," he said when their lips parted. Ange, not Orifiel. Albert, not Himmel. Ange's head felt like it was spinning. Albert's hand was warm on her shoulder. "Ange, say something, or I'm going to do it again."

She closed her eyes, smiled, and didn't say anything at all.

TALES OF SYMPHONIA: DAWN OF THE NEW WORLD: Aster/Richter

The hotel room wasn't that nice; it was two beds crowded too close together and a dingy wooden table set over some deep scratches in the floor. The walls were thin, and Richter could hear people laughing and shouting in the bar below. He didn't mind, though. Up here they were far enough from the press of humanity that he could breathe, and it wasn't the basement of Sybak's research labs.

Aster, predictably, had taken up most of both beds. He sat crosslegged on one with his research notes and books scattered around him in a haphazard semicircle, and he was scribbling furiously in a notebook. "Aster," Richter said.

Aster's head jerked up, but when he caught sight of Richter, his expression melted into a smile. Richter looked away as an answering warmth settled in his chest. "Richter," he said warmly. "Come sit-- oh. Oh! Uh, I'll clean this up, just give me a moment-- I didn't mean to take over your bed or anything, I'm really sorry."

The bed was cleared fast; Aster was better at condensing his mess these days. Richter sat down gingerly on the edge and pushed up his glasses so that he could peer at Aster's notes.

"Richter?"

Richter set the notes down. "It's a good plan," he said.

"No, I mean…" Aster trailed off and gestured around them. "How does it feel, being out here again?"

"It feels fine." Richter folded his arms over his chest. "What is this about?"

"So," Aster said, his voice getting a little faster, "if you aren't okay with this and you want to split up or something, I'll pay for the second room out of my own stipend, okay? You don't need to feel you have to stay with me."

Richter's stomach twisted. "What?" he demanded, but Aster just shook his head and leaned up to press his lips against Richter's, just a brief brush of contact before he sat back.

"I've wanted to do that for a while now," Aster said quietly as Richter sat there, trying to remember how to breathe. "I don't know if it would affect how we work together, but… it wasn't fair to do it before, when you couldn't leave. And now you can, so…"

Richter closed his eyes. "I'm not going anywhere," he managed to say, and when he opened his eyes, all he could see was Aster's hopeful smile shining right into all the shadows over his heart.
